Summit climb in the snow
March 21, 2009

As we get close to Palm Springs the sun breaks through the morining fog

Our goal today: Mount San Jacinto, 10,804 ft (3293 m)

We take the tram up today. It starts at desert level and the mountain station is at 8400ft

The desert floor by Palm Springs in the distance

There's the peak!

Round Valley

A short break by the Ranger cabin

The snow is getting softer - time for gaiters

Jesper planning the route upwards

Summiting Jean's peak at 10,670 ft (3252 m). Due to the deep snow after Wellman's divide, about 5 ft above 9000ft, we didn't find a good route to San Jacinto peak, so we decided to head straight up to this one. A first for both of us!

San Jacinto to the right and San Gorgonio in the background. (see: Mt San Gorgonio hike )

Jesper on the summit

Glissading down the 45 degree slope. Faster down than up!

Heading into the denser forest at lower elevation again.
We reached the top of the tram around 3pm after a gorgeous day, and returned to the california climate again.
